Easter Celebration at Jägersro

Orthodox Easter is always a special holiday in Ukraine. Celebrated with dyed eggs and paska, traditional sweet bread, it is a symbol of new hope. And hope has never been more important than now when we all hope for peace in Ukraine.

This year Orthodox Easter was on Sunday, 24 April, a week after the catholic and protestant one. We in Malmö Helps did all we could to make it special for both our donors and the families we support at the refugee centre.

On Friday, 23 April, we raised awareness about Ukrainian Easter and our work to support the new refugees by ICA Maxi in Västra Hamnen, Malmö, and ICA Toppen, Höllviken. We offered a cup of coffee and a slice of paska bread baked by our volunteers. In just a couple of hours, we raised several bags full of hygiene products and snacks for kids. So grateful to everyone who contributed!

In the week leading up to the holiday, we got incredible support for our cause from the many friends of Ukraine here in Skåne. Massive Entertainment even organised a collection for us in their Malmö office.

Saturday was a big event in Jägersro. Paska, dyed eggs, sun, and smiles from both kids and their parents – photos speak better than a thousand words. We also continued distributing essential products and food to those who needed them.

Our donors were amazing as always. We got lots of hygiene products, school supplies, juices, smoothies and toys donated to us. Every one of you makes our work possible. Whether you help once or regularly – every contribution makes a difference for those who have so little.

Happy Orthodox Easter and thank you so much!
