Malmö Helps was founded in February 2022 as a direct response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. What began as a small, private group of volunteers has since grown into one of the leading humanitarian organizations in southern Sweden. From day one, we have remained on the front lines, providing critical support to refugees by distributing humanitarian aid, including food, clothing, and hygiene products, directly to those in need. Our mission is to help refugees rebuild their lives in a new and unfamiliar environment.

Since our founding, we have been deeply involved in supporting refugees through a wide range of activities aimed at providing both immediate relief and long-term social integration.

2022

In our first year, we organized numerous events for the refugee community, including Easter, Children’s Day, Midsummer, St. Nicholas Day, and Christmas celebrations at the Migration Office. Two major Ukrainian cultural festivals—Ukrainian Independence Day and Ukrainian cultural festival that attracted 350-400 people each.

2023

Our organization grew significantly as we launched the “Care for U” and “Care Fast Skåne” projects in collaboration with ABF, supporting over 2,000 Ukrainian refugees. These projects included a range of services, from leisure activities to employment assistance, with over 200 people finding jobs. We continued our partnership with the Swedish Church, holding a meeting place in Malmö’s city center. We also organized a series of community events, including Vyshyvanka Day, International Kids Day, and participation in the Limhamn and Malmö Festivals. A grand Christmas concert and art exhibition helped raise awareness about Ukrainian culture and support for our community.

2024

This year, we transitioned from the “Care for U” to the “Care for All” project, expanding our services to support refugees from all backgrounds. We’ve also established new partnerships with Lund University, BRIS, and other organizations, further strengthening our network and ability to help refugees rebuild their lives. Our ongoing efforts continue to focus on integration, education, and creating opportunities for refugees to thrive in Sweden.

Through these efforts, Malmö Helps has created a meaningful impact, assisting thousands of refugees, fostering a sense of belonging, and promoting integration into Swedish society.
